DESP III provides the Air Force Materiel Command, Ogden Air Logistics Center (OO-ALC), Engineering Directorate with high caliber engineering and technical services to support all AFMC weapon systems, subsystems, and related processes.

The DESP III contract addresses technical and administrative requirements necessary to create and implement a program to provide design and engineering/technical support services for the Department of Defense (DoD) mission weapon systems, components, and support equipment (including engineering design, integration, system modifications, limited manufacturing, maintenance, repair, and supportive operations/processes). While the DESP II contract was specifically established within the Air Force Material Command (AFMC) and the Army Tank and Automotive Command (TACOM), this dynamic contract vehicle may be used by all other Air Force/Army commands, DOD agencies and other government entities having similar systems and/or needs.

The indefinite delivery / indefinite quantity (IDIQ) DESP III contract supports a broad range of engineering, technical, and support services. While the contract vehicle has been established by the Air Force Materiel Command (AFMC), it may be used in support of any system or subsystem within the Air Force as well as other Department of Defense agencies.
The objectives of the DESP III program focus on improving system life cycle cost, operational life, performance, sustainment including maintainability & support, and safety & environmental friendliness. Engineering services are in the areas of new design, technical documentation, diminishing material and manufacturing sources, environmental improvement issues, reliability, productivity, efficiency, and cost saving.
